■40 <br />TO:Mayor Peterson and Council Membera <br />FROM:Ron Moorsc, City Administrator <br />DATE:January 14,2003 <br />SUBJECT: Navarre Town Meeting Debrief <br />The following is a summary of the Navarre Town Meeting Held on <br />March 13, 2003. <br />Key Feedback From Navarre Residents <br />Navarre is a great place to live, and a safe place for kids. <br />Residents enjoy the convenience and friendliness of the full <br />range of owner-operated service businesses in Navarre. <br />Navarre residents enjoy the small town neighborhood feel of <br />the area. <br />There is strong support for the Dakota Rail Corridor regional <br />recreational trail. <br />The residents very much appreciate the Navarre Park upgrade. <br />Key Issues Identified <br />It is important to preserve the small town retail character <br />with a diversity of owner-operated service businesses. <br />-Don't bring in big box retail or strip retail. <br />Add landscaping "green" (trees) to the Navarre commercial <br />area for improved appearance and a consistent theme. <br />Develop a 20-30 year master plan for the Navarre commercial <br />area, to enable greater continuity in the type, character, <br />and layout of buildings. <br />Improve the safety and ease of pedestrian movement <br />-Provide a safe crosswalk across County Road 15. <br />-Provide more sidewalks, particularly along Shadywood <br />Road. <br />Manage the volume of traffic on County Road 15. <br />Questions and concerns were raised regarding moving away from <br />Mound for fire service, and building a neighborhood fire <br />station in Navarre. <br />Orono C'ity Council Comment.s <br />The Council wants to be proactive vs. reactive, and will use <br />public input to guide the long term planning for the Navarre <br />area.
