r
Our prosecutors will have a longer commute and these costs will be passed onto the smaller
cities. In fact, they may decide it is not worth their time to serve our cities. That is a cost we can
not afford.
We are already unhappy with the concept of “hearing officers" dealing with moving violations
which caused the removal of one judge from Ridgedale already.
Getting witnesses and victims to cooperate in going to Brookdalc or Downtown will be
challenging at best. People will have to arrange the extra time, obtain transportation, and cope
with rising costs of parking, and meals.
We will also have to send our one investigator judge hunting to get search warrants reviewed for
signature. The woricload on our investigator is already considerable and it w ill not serve our
citizens well to spend his valuable investigative time driving.
The bottom line is that the criminal justice system is already cumbersome and slow and these
choices make it considerably worse for the western cities in Hennepin County. The end result of
the Ridgedale closing is that it offers more benefits to law breakers than to law enforcers, and the
safety of our citizens is on the line.
1 encourag.* you to strongly consider other ways in which to cope with court administrative issues
than to close the Ridgedale Court.
Sincerely,
Stephany Good
Orono Chief of Police
