She delivered a letter opposing this closing <br />citing its potential negative impact on the Orono police budget, negative impact on fair access, <br />and negative impact on public safety in our area to District Court Chief Judge Kevin Burke. <br />On February 27, 2003, Hennepin County District Court Administrator Mark Thompson <br />announced that the District Court was considering closing one or more suburban courthouses in <br />response to funding decreases. Minnetonka City Attorney Desyl Peterson examined the impact <br />of suburban court closings on suburban Hennepin County police and prosecutors and <br />recommends that suburban city councils consider passing their concerns along in the form of a <br />resolution. <br />If Ridgedale court is closed, the potential monetary costs to the Orono Police Department arc <br />estimated to be over $47,000/year. Costs to Orono’s citizens, victims and witnesses cannot be <br />estimated. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REOUESTFD <br />Motion to pass resolution opposing the closure of any suburban courthouse and requesting <br />Hennepin Couty District Court to share information and cooperatively examine possible <br />solutions for slate funding cuts.
