The ■*olice department has been notified that the cars are expected <br />to be delivered on or about March 1 ,2003. The cost of each car is $23,386 (state bid pricing). In <br />an effort to reduce maintenance cost an extended warrant was purchased for $1,800 per car. The <br />strip down of the old cars and set up of the new cars will be $2,887.20 per car. This includes <br />transferring of the radios, lights, computers, and security screen. The graphics for the exterior will <br />cost $312 per car. The total expenditure will be $85,155.60 plus applicable tax and incidental <br />charges. <br />The current car being driven by the Chief of Police and two of the cars being stripped dow n w ill be <br />sold through a public bidding process. This is the same process the police department has used the <br />last several years. One of the cars being stripped w ill be set up to be used as an unmarked car for <br />the Chief of Police. The cost to set this car up for unmarked operation is e.xpected to be about <br />$2,200. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED; <br />Motion to approve acceptance of the new cars from Superior Ford, offer and sell the old cars through <br />competitive bidding, and set up the new cars.
