WeCAN provides a variety of services to low-
income residents in western Hennepin County. In most cases WeCAN is
the only provider of these services in our communities. Our programs
include; Emergency housing and utility assistance, Job Counseling, Meals
on Wheels, Family Support serv ices, public assistance intake services, and
access to family mental health couitseling.
In 2002, we served 969 families in our service area. Of those served, 25
were Orono residents. Enclosed for your review is detailed information of
the services provided in our 12 city service area.
During these turbulent economic times, WeCAN has witnessed the
increased burden on families .n financial and emotional crisis. Many of
our clients are the working poor v^ho barely earn enough income to get by.
Any financial setback can be devastating for the entire family. The
requests for our services continues to grow every year.
As you know, your cit>’s CDBG allocation is now part of a pool of funds
from communities receiving less than $75,000 annually in CDBG funding.
This year W'eCAN is again requesting S 15,000 from CDBG funds.
