m <br />TO; <br />FROM: <br />DATE: <br />Mayor Peterson and Council Members <br />Ron Moorse, City Administrator <br />Januaiy 14,2003 <br />SUBJECT: Navarre Fire Service Update <br />— Orono will be working with both the Long Lake Fire Department and the Excelsior Fire District to <br />make the transition away from Mound for the provision of fire service to the Navarre area. Gabriel <br />Jabbour and Jim Murphy have been meeting with the Long Lake and Excelsior Fire Chiefs to begin to <br />plan the transition. The Excelsior Fire Chief is agreeable to providing substantial advice and assistance <br />in 2003 in relation to the Navarre fire station, and the recniitment and training of firefighters to staff <br />the new station. He has also indicated the Excelsior Fire District is open to providing the level of <br />assistance iweded to ensure high quality fire service continues to be provided to the Navarre area in <br />2004 and beyond. <br />At the January 1S meeting of the Long Lake Fire Advisory Commission, Chief Roehl indicated he will <br />be obtaining the advice of a number of fire chiefs, incluctog the Excelsior Fire Chief, to assist him in <br />initiating the firefighter recruitment process.
