IL. <br />MINUTESOFTHE <br />ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br />Sfo«day, Aagvst 16,2004 <br />6HM o'clock p.m. <br />(404-3037 Wa>-ula Coootry Clob, caotkiocd) <br />accessory building area \inance to allow an tndixndual building to exceed 3000 square feet and for the <br />total amount of accessory buildings to exceed 6000 square feet based on the number of acres the <br />country club owns. <br />Rahn inquired whether the applicant had an>ihmg additional to add to Staffs report. <br />Dnscoll stated he did not. <br />There were no public comments regarding this application. <br />Kenipf commented he has nsited this site and that the building is not quite parallel to the Luce <br />Line. Kempf stated in his opinion the building could have been constructed parallel to the Luce Line <br />w ithout any change in the functionalit>'. Kempf stated the building w*as originally constructed <br />inappropriately and that the applicant is now requesting that the building become even more <br />inappropnaie. <br />Kempf stated he did notice that the buildings facing the country club w ere painted green and had <br />nice shrubs and trees planted around them, but that the side of the building facing the public is <br />white and stands out. Kempf staled he also noticed some dead golf carts and pallets m view of the <br />public and that in his opinion the Wayzata Country Club has not taken the stew ardship of their <br />position on the trail seriously. Kempf indicated he w ould not be in support of the variance. <br />Dnscoll remarked that the debns has recently been moved there in preparation for the construction of <br />the addition and that the country club is in great need for additional storage. Dnscoll staled the <br />building was painted w hite at the request of the neighbor adjacent to the Luce Line so it would he <br />less obtrusive in the wintertime. Dnscoll stated the Wa>'zata Country Club works closely with the <br />DNR and w ith the Luce Line users. <br />Dnscoll slated the main purpose of the addition is to add more storage room so that those items would <br />be out of sight from the general public. Driscoll indicated the country club has been the victim of <br />several vandalism episodes in the last couple of years and they are attemptuig to house all their <br />equipment indoors. <br />Dnscoll stated he cannot comment on the tocalion of the buildmg since he was not involved w ith <br />that project. <br />Rahn commented that in his opmion thae appears to be an alternate location for this building that <br />would not be encroaching into any setbacks. Rahn stated the issue appears to be the setback vanance <br />and not the accessory builduig area variance. <br />Dnscoll suted locating the building to the north is not possible due to the golf course layout and that <br />in his opinion the proposed locatiofi is really the only location for the addition. <br />Leslie inquired w hether the golf course has consKiered constructmg a separate structure rather than <br />expanding the existing stnicture. <br />PACE?
