ACTION DATE: November4,2004 ITEM NO: Approval: Name Lin Vcc Title City Clerk Administrator Reviewed: /Z7 Agenda Section: City Administrator's Report Item Description: Certify Results of November 2,2004 Municipal Election Attachments: Results of the November 2,2004 General Election Minnesota State Election Laws require that the governing body of a city conducting the general election in November canvass the returns and declare the results of the election within seven days after an election. A summary of the results by precinct of the November 2,2004 General Election is attached for Council review. Following is an excerpt from Minnesota Stale Statute Section 412.02 which stales that elected officials arc to begin terms of office on the first Monday in January following the election. SuM. 2, Term. Terms of elective ojficers shall commence on the first Monday in January following the election at which the officer is chosen. All officers chosen and qualified as such shall hold office until their successors qualify. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to declare Barbara Peterson as Mayor for a 2-year temi beginning on January 3,2005, to declare Lili McMillan and Jim White as Council Members for 4-ycar terms beginning on January 3, 2005, and to certify the results of the November 2, 2004 municipal election as follows: Mayor - Elect one for 2-vear term Barbara Peterson Write-in receiving 3,536 votes receiving 84 votes Council Members - Elect two for 4-vear terms Lili McMillan Jim White Walter J. Koronkiewicz Write-in receiving 2,636 votes receiving 2,184 votes receiving 1,126 votes receiving 39 votes
