Entrance Monuments are becoming more and more popular with
new construction on larger lots due to the mral Orono context, especially in the 2 and 5
acre zones. Standards do not currently exist specific to entrance monuments, although
staff has been adapting pieces of the Ordinance pertaining to fences in an attempt to
regulate tltem until no\^. Because entrance monuments can have a visual effect from the
road as well as an effect on how emergency vehicles respond to the properties, the
Planning Commission requested that language be formally drafted.
Planning Department staff incorporated current policies for reviewing entrance
monuments based on current practices. This language would appear under the non-
encroachment section of the Zoning Ordinance, directly following the fence regulations.
Section 78-72
This amendment is proposed due to the level of tear down and rebuilds that are occurring
in Orono. Many of the existing lots were created prior to the current zoning district lot
