It is staffs understanding that the decision has been made that <br />the Camp will no longer be operated in the manner it has operated for tlie past three decades, and that <br />the Camp property is to be sold. Tliis change in policy rai.scs a number of serious concerns, <br />including the on-going maintenance and supervision of the property, and the potential change in use <br />of the property under a new owner. <br />I he City needs to be involved in working with the Veterans ’ Affairs Department, as welt as witli <br />other agencies with whom the City has developed partnership relationships, such as Three Rivers <br />Park District, and I lennepin (^lunty, toward an outcome that can tneet the goals of the Veterans ’ <br />AITairs Department, as well as address the concerns of the City. <br />Gabriel Jabbour has indicated a strung interest in repre.senting the City on this issue. He is very <br />familiar with the history and operation of the Vets’ Camp, and has substantial experience working <br />with both Hennepin County and the Three Rivers Park District on major issues and projects. It is <br />recommended that Gabriel Jabbour be designated as an official representative of the City concerning <br />the Vets’ Camp issues. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to designate (labriel Jabbour as an official representative of the City concerning the Big <br />Island Vets’ Camp issues.
