A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING <br />MIKE BROWN FOR HIS 40 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERV ICE <br />AS A MEMBER OF THE LONG LAKE FIRE DEPAR I MENT <br />RESOLUTION NO.5167 <br />W'HEREAS, the City of Orono receives fire and rescue service from three <br />volunteer Fire Departments; and <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Long Lake Fire Department serves the largest portion of Orono; <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono and its citizens rely on the local volunteer Fire <br />Departments for protection and assistance in emergency fire and rescue situations; and <br />WHEREAS, the local Fire Departments are stalled by volunteers who contribute <br />many hours of their time to ensure they are properly trained, and to respond to emergency <br />situations; and <br />WHEREAS, as the amount of time required for both training and emergency <br />response continues to grow, along with the demands of work and family life, it is <br />becoming more diffieult to rccru;t and retain volunteer firefighters; and <br />WHEREAS, fortunately, there are those unique and special individuals who are <br />driven to make volunteer firefighting a lifelong vocation; and <br />WHEREAS, Mike Brown is one of those special persons who has devoted 40 <br />years of his life to serving the community as a volunteer firefighter; and <br />WHEREAS, Mike Brown has served in an officer capacity for at least 20 of his <br />40 years of service on the Long Lake Fire Department, including five years of <br />distinguished service as Fire Chief. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orono City Council does <br />hereby recognize, and express its sincere appreciation to. Mike Brown for his 40 years of <br />dedicated service to the community as a volunteer firefighter, including five years as Fire <br />Chief, with the Long Lake Fire Department. <br />Adopted by the Orono City Council this ICth day of May. 2004. <br />ATIEST: <br />Linda S.
