COUNCIL MEETING <br />DEC 122005 <br />I ^ <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />DATE: December 7,2005 <br />ITEM NO: 11 <br />Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section: <br />Name LinVee City Administrator's <br />Titto City Clerk r ¥i Report <br />Item Description: Proposed 2006 Meeting Schedule <br />Attachnent: Proposed 2006 Orono Meeting Schedule <br />On the attached schedule, Couacil meetings are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Monday of the <br />month at 7:00 p.m. As in the past, only one Council meeting is scheduled in December. <br />Council work sessions have been scheduled for the each Tuesday following a Council meeting <br />except for the September 11 Council meeting. Since the Primary Election will be held on <br />Tuesday, Septen^r 12 and no public meetings may be held between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., no <br />work session will be scheduled. Council may determine an alternate date in the future. <br />Planning Commission meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m, <br />January and February are the exceptions because of Monday holidays. In those months, the <br />meetings will be on the third Tuesday. No Planning Commission meeting is scheduled in <br />December. <br />Regular Planning Commission work sessions have been scheduled for the first Wednesday of <br />each month at 5:30 p.m. <br />Park Commission meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. <br />Exceptions are the January, July and September meetings which have been rescheduled because <br />of the New Year’s Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays. There is no December Park <br />Conunission meeting scheduled. <br />The City schedules eleven holidays throughout the year, including 10 regular holidays and one <br />designated floating holiday. The ten regular holidays are New Year's Day, Martin Luther King <br />Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, i.abor Day, Veterans’ Day, <br />Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. When a holiday falls on <br />Saturday, the offic’al holiday is scheduled for the previous Friday. When a holiday falls on <br />Sunday, the officii 1 holiday is scheduled for the following Monday. Staff is recommending that <br />this year’s designai?d floating holiday be used on Monday, July 3 to make a long holiday <br />weekend. Staff anticipates that July 3 would not be busy as many contractors and residents <br />would also be observing a long holiday weekend. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to amend/q>prove/table the 2006 Meeting Schedule. <br />i
