The beam is 8 ” deep by 7 %” wide with 5 W by 6" columns
supporting the beam every 8'.
The footings under the columns are 30”x30*
The overai width of the foundation is 22'.
Based on the age of the house, the wails are assumed to be 2x4 Douglas*
Fir studs spaced at 16* on center.
The soil under the footing is compacted sand.
The addition of the second story is assumed to add ten foet to the overali height
of the house.
3.The addKion of the second floor may be placed above the main part of the house
as wen as the former garage.
A structural engineering review was completed. It was determined that the
Mdsting walls and foundation wNI be adequate to support the addMon of the
second story. No additional reinforcement will be required in the existing walls.
imOFESSIOMAL OPmiON
s It is my profossional engineering opinion that the house wNI be adequate to
support the addition of a second story over any part of the house and the former
garage.
ilEHEBAk
Further study and structural analysis of the post bearings, framing attachments,
and headers wNI be requliad once the final layout of the proposed addition is
finished.
7.The information, observations, and opinions stated in this report are based on an
inspection made by John DahImeier. The inspection consistsd of a visual walk
through obsenring exposed elements and foose accessible without the removal
of finished materials.
The observations and opinions expressed Hi this report were baaed on my
professional engineering judgment wid professionai practice, as weN as the site
inspection.
1
