MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, Jaac 13,2005 <br />7:00 o’clock pjn. <br />PRESENTATION <br />2. NORTH HENNEPIN MEDIATION PROGRAM <br />Marpky moved, Pctenoa seconded, to approve fandins for North Hennepin Mediation, Inc., in the <br />iatofS3,000. V. 'TE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />MAYOR/COUNCIL REPORT <br />McMillan stated she has reviewed the LMCD budget, noting that a six percent increase is being proposed <br />for Orono, which amounts to $3,680. McMillan stated the LMCD would approve the budget July 1", and <br />recommended that some guidance be given on the budget. <br />White indicated he is in favor of the increase. <br />Moorse stated he has not reviewed the budget in detail but noted that the LMCD is proposing to use fewer <br />reserves this year. <br />McMillan stated the LMCD could use the Save the Lake money to deal with the zebra mussels. <br />Muiphy inquired how much is in the Save the Lake fund. <br />McMillan stated there is approximately $230,000 cuiremly in that fund. McMillan pointed out they are <br />only able to use the interest and not the principal. <br />McMillan stated two citizens along County Road 6 have contacted her recently regarding an increase in <br />the amount of people fishing along the east end of Long Lake Road. The citizens raised concerns <br />regarding the safety of children arid other people in that area given the parking on the side of the road, the <br />narrow road and the blind curve. <br />Murphy stated he also has received a call regarding this situation. <br />Gappa stated he has spoken with the police department regarding the placement of signs in that area <br />warning drivers of pedestrians ahead. <br />McMillan suggested that “no parking” signs be placed in this area. <br />Moorse inquired whether a fishing pier should be installed in that area. <br />McMillan stated there could be a problem accessing the pier. McMillan suggested the police department <br />review the situation on a weekend and make some recommendations. <br />McMillan stated she is in support of researching the Life Line. <br />PAGE 14 <br />J
