REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DATE: J«BC 10,2005
ITEM NO: j
Cot oir*cT||^Q
JUN I 3 2005
CITY OF ORONO
Dcpartflirat Approval:
NRmf Ronald J. Moone
Title City Administrator
Adniabtrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
City Administrator’s Report
Item Description: Invoice for Long Lake Fire Station Epoxy Floor Upgrade
Background
The initial epoxy floor installed in the Long lake Fire Station apparatus bay was defective.
When the flooring subcontractor, Diversified Coatings, was preparing to repair the floor, they
installed a test patch by replacing the floor in a single section of the apparatus bay, to ensure the
repair would hold up to truck traffic, etc. In installing the test patch. Diversified mistakenly
installed an upgraded, more slip>iesistant, flooring surface. The installation of the upgraded
surface on the entire floor would have cost $20,000. The Cities initially indicated they were not
willing to pay the entire $20,000 for the upgrade. Rather than tearing up the test patch and
starting over, Diversified agreed to provide the upgraded floor surface for an additional cost of
$5,000. The Long Lake Fire Advisory Commission agreed to accept the offer for the upgraded
flooring.
Recommendation
The upgraded flooring has now been installed. Staff recommends approval of the payment of
$5,000 to Diversified Coatings.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to approve the payment of $5,000 to Diversified Coatings for the epoxy floor upgrade, to
be paid from the Joint Fire Station Construction Fund.
