Leslie recommended the Council consider the fact that the City’s building code does not mandate <br />a covered entiyway and that this might be setting a pr<^edcnt. <br />Mrs. McDonnell pointed out they are removing three to one hardcover in order to construct the <br />covered entryway. <br />Sansevere stated the Council views hardship as being inhereiit td the land. <br />Mrs. McDonnell indicated she has reviewed the City’s yreb sit^ and that she understands the <br />intent of the guidelines. McDonnell stated the number one intent of the guidelines is the safety of <br />the residents. McDonnell stated a broken leg costs money and that this hardship is very real. <br />Sansevere inquired whether aesthetics is the driving factor for the size of the entry way. <br />Mrs. McDonnell stated while massing is an issue, a smaller deck would look out of place. <br />Mr. McDonnell noted the Planning Commission iecomihended approval of an 80 square foot <br />covered entryway on a 4 to 3 vote and they proceeded forward with these plans based on the <br />recommenoation of the Planning Commission. McDonnell indicated aesthetics does play a part <br />i . Iin their proposal, noting that they. Would like to construct an entry way that is attractive to the <br />house given the costs involy^ widi the project. <br />Richard Rolirer^24 Baldur Paitii, stated he is in favor of the 80 square foot porch and that a <br />smkll4r ehtryway Would hot look very httractive. Rohrer indicated he has visited the McDonnells <br />'MS'' <br />wintertime and that the;en^way does get icy. <br />M^itC commented this is not a major change to the residence. White pointed out the City’s <br />definition of hardship is inherent with the land. <br />i' ■ <br />Mrs. McDbnnell inquired Why a 440 square foot garage was approved earlier tonight when it <br />':ij' <br />exceeded the structural coverage. <br />Barrett staled Minnesota slate law does allow a property owner to a construct a garage. <br />Sansevere noted this is not the same situation and that the circumstances are different from the <br />prior application. <br />VOTE: Ayca 4, Naya 1, Sansevere opposed. <br />ofllssiiJ
