City of Orono Good Citizen Award Criteria <br /> <br />The Orono City Council established the Good Citizenship Award program to recognize persons <br />who exemplify acts of good citizenship. Frequently people volunteer in various ways to make <br />Orono a better place to live, work, and play and receive no acknowledgement for their work. The <br />city recognizes that the strength of a community is dependent upon a strong network of citizens <br />who devote time and effort to improve the quality of life by helping others. <br /> <br />Nominee Guidelines: <br /> <br /> Nominees must be a past or present resident of the City of Orono. <br /> <br /> Nominees must have made a contribution of service to the community while residing in <br />the City of Orono. <br /> <br /> Current or past residents and city staff of the City of Orono may nominate individuals. <br /> <br /> Current elected officials may not receive the award. <br /> <br /> Nominations are accepted by submitting the online form located on the City’s website. <br /> <br /> Awardees will be presented with the award at regular City Council Meetings. <br /> <br /> <br />Examples of volunteer or service work to improve the quality of life in Orono include: <br /> <br /> Helping others <br /> <br /> Protecting the environment <br /> <br /> Providing opportunities for youth <br /> <br /> Exemplifying good citizenship <br /> <br /> <br />Volunteer work can be performed in: <br /> <br /> Schools, churches, homes <br /> <br /> Parks, public land, public facilities <br /> <br /> Businesses, work places <br /> <br />Nominations for the Good Citizen Award are accepted throughout the year and reviewed by <br />the City Council. The City Council will publicly recognize award recipients and present <br />them with a Good Citizen Award at an official City Council meeting.
