The Foundation is the appropriate impartial catalyst to <br />initiate such projects. <br />■ Establishment of a national computerized water information <br />network, a cental source providing information to business, <br />indusby. and policy-makers on water issues to assist in long-range <br />planning and management related to water concerns. <br />■ Development of a regional center, a place to go for responses to any <br />water-related questions. <br />■ Catalyst or startup programs to help other states, agencies, and <br />organizations coordinate needed programs to avoid duplication. <br />Production of movies for national distribution that address specific <br />water issues. <br />Category 8: <br />PROMOTING CONFERENCES AND <br />WORKSHOPS Total: $451,000 <br />It Is crucial to bring together the scientific community, the user public. <br />and the policy-makers to identify and initiate the problem solution <br />process. <br />■ Sponsorship of biennial national conferences to address specific or <br />regional water issues of concern to the general public. <br />■ Production and distribution of full written reports of these national <br />conferences, thus expanding each conference ’s impact. <br />■ Workshops to precede every conference, movie, or publication. <br />These workshops serve to sort out ideas, establish priorities, and <br />focus on issues to ensure a successful, coordinated effort. <br />Total: $1,075,000 <br />Category 9: <br />COORDINATING FOUNDATION <br />ACTIVITIES <br />Foundation and Society <br />Administrative management of Foundation activities, management of <br />Society membership activities, contracts for services, and maintenance <br />of property.
