Johnson, 3393 Crystal Bay Road - <br />Variance <br />Application - Variance <br />a) Section 10.60, Subdivision 13, storage of boat over 20 feet <br />in length within 15' to 20' of street and less then 10' from side <br />property line in a location that provides no screening from <br />neighboring properties and within lake view of west property <br />owner. <br />b) Section 10.55, Subdivision 8, no filling or excavation within <br />75' of lakeshore or installation of permanemt structures - The <br />applicant has placed gravel ever approximately 440 square feet of <br />an area located within 75 feet of the lakeshore and has placed a <br />section of a retaining wall within 65' to 67' of the lakeshore. <br />The specific section of retaining wa11 is 3 feet high at its <br />highest point and stepped down as it approaches lakeward. The east side of the <br />paved drive is the only formal yard or grassed area in the l ront yard. <br />The west side of the yard has never been tormally landscaped. <br />Approximately half of the gravel area that lays between the paved <br />drive and west property line is the bed of an old gravel drive that <br />served the house to the west. The remaining portion (area adjacent to <br />retaining wall) was never able to sustain adequate ground cover be­ <br />cause of the erosion from the steep back to the north. The applicant <br />has listed the following hardships in iiis application for a variance. <br />1. Narrow lot and location of adjacent homes and improvements. <br />2. Steep topography to rear of home made back of lot <br />inaccessible. <br />3. Location of access road. <br />I have asked the City Attorney for his opinion concerning the <br />singling out of one individual for violation of an ordinance that is <br />violated by many in our community.
