. <br /> current edition, or with other fire extinguishing equipment as may be approved by the <br /> council. <br /> f. The owner of any building or structure existing and in use, including seasonal use, as of <br /> the effective date of the ordinance from which this division is derived, shall have a period <br /> of two years, not to extend later than January 1, 1985, to comply with the provisions of <br /> subsections (6)b and (6)c of this section, and a period of five years, not to extend later <br /> than January 1, 1988, to comply with the provisions of subsections (6)d and (6)e of this <br /> section; except that if any addition, alteration or repair is undertaken on such building or <br /> structure prior to these compliance dates, compliance shall be required as a condition of <br /> permit issuance for such work. <br /> (7) Additional building securiry requirements. Because of the remote location of the islands, each <br /> property owner shall be responsible for providing additional private security measures for <br /> persons and property as follows: <br /> a. Telephone service shall be provided at each principal dwelling, at day-use recreation <br /> areas, and at overnight camps. <br /> b. All buildings or structures shall be provided with substantial locking devices on all doors <br /> and windows. <br /> c. Owners of seasonal dwellings or other buildings are encouraged, but not required, to <br /> place solid lockable shutters over all ground floor windows and doors when the building <br /> is to be unused for any length of time, and especially over the winter months. <br /> d. Any abandoned or hazardous building shall be securely boarded up within 60 days and <br /> shall be razed and completely removed within one year of any notice issued by the city. <br /> e.
