FAX#763-479-1890
E-MAIL: ro_ss astructuresunlimitedonline.com
WEB SITE: www structuresunlimitedonline.com
March 6, 2012
Lyle Oman
Building Official
City of Orono, MN
Re: 180 Big Island
Lyle,
I have done some ongoing construction and maintenance work for Mark&Suzanne Myers, the owners
of 180 Big Island, over the last four years.
Last summer they cailed me to repair their steps to the lake since a large tree had fallen and damaged
a section of the steps halfway down the steep bank to the lake. Since the tree damage to the steps
was substantial, we brought in a professional tree service to evaluate the other trees on the property for
potential future damage from falling limbs and trees. At that point the large Maple tree hanging over the
waterfront was determined to be a potential threat to the Myers property and safety. At the same time
a Cedar Tree at the top of the bank was noted for the same concerns.
The original tree service subcontractor(copy of his estimate attached), got too busy to do the job, and
with the ice on the lake what it has been, I was getting worried about getting these trees removed
before spring. When an opportunity to get the trees removed opened up last week I jumped on it. I had
no idea that there would be any issue for these homeowners to contract to have a tree removed from
their property that was threatening their property and personal safety.
It was only after we were at the Isiand working that the issues surfaced about removing the trees.
Once I became aware of the conflict with city policy, I called the city to let them know what the situation
was, and that we were taking down trees that were a threat to the homeowne's property. I agreed to
take pictures of those trees, to be used for documentation after the fact, and those pictures are
enclosed with this letter. Also enclosed is a letter from the property owner, Suzanne Myers regarding
this situation.
I sincerely hope this is the end of this matter. Mark & Suzanne Myers are good stewards of their
property on Big Island, and do their part to make and keep the Island a special place.
Ross Langhans, Owner
Structures Unlimited, Inc.
www.atructuresunlimitedonlinP.com
Cell#612-384-4663
ee$ent►s senera conhel'
STRUCTURES
UNLIMITED, INC.
rM uc..msaw
03/06/12
