<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />NO. 7259 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION TO PARTNER WITH OTHER INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AND <br />NON GOVEMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE REMOVAL OF CARP FROM LONG <br />LAKE TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY IN THE LONG LAKE CREEK SUBWATERSHED <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Long Lake Waters Association (LLWA) conducted a study and removal plan <br />of carp in Long Lake <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Upper Minnehaha Creek Watershed Nutrient and Bacterial TMDL Study <br />addresses nutrient impairments and nutrient budgets in the distinct hydraulic basin referred as the “Upper <br />Watershed” of the Minnehaha Creek; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Tanager Lake Subwatershed, also known as the Long Lake Creek <br />Subwatershed, is located in the Upper Minnehaha Creek Watershed and includes Long Lake Creek and <br />six impaired lakes within the cities of Long Lake, Medina, and Orono; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocations have been established for the <br />cities of Long Lake, Medina, and Orono, Hennepin County, and the Minnesota Department of <br />Transportation (MnDOT); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an overabundance of invasive Carp is harming the watershed by destroying habitat <br />and stirring up phosphorus which decreases water clarity and promotes algae growth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Long Lake, Medina, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed and the Long Lake Waters <br />Association wish to remove Carp from Long Lake; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Orono’s participation in this project can be used to show progress <br />towards meeting the established TMDL allocation; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota <br />that the City Council does hereby partner with other intergovernmental agencies and nongovernmental <br />organizations for the removal of carp from Long Lake to improve water quality in the Long Lake Creek <br />Subwatershed and will contribute $5,000.00 to the project. <br /> <br /> <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting held March 28, 2022. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> <br />________________________________ __________________________________ <br />Anna Carlson, City Clerk Dennis Walsh, Mayor
