CITY OF ORONO
MEMORANDUM
yF
lgA-EsHO
DATE: October 1, 2015
TO: 1444 Shoreline Drive file
FROM: Jeremy Barnhart, Community Development DirectorC5
RE: 1444 Shoreline Drive complaint
On August 21, 2015,the City received a complaint regarding several issues associated with
business at 1444 Shoreline Drive,Your Boat Club. This letter is in addition to a number of
other complaints received verbally from an area resident in early June, 2015,who
complained about parking on grass, storage in the building, irregular parking, and the
condition of the property. These issues and staffs conclusion are:
1. Parking on the grass within feet of the lake. Parking on the grass has been observed
periodically. Parking is not prohibited on grass and does not appear to occur
repeatedly to the effect of killing the grass. Staff notified the owner of not parking
commercially on the grass.
2. Use of residential property for commercial use. A site inspection was completed on
September 9, and minor amounts of commercial property and product were
observed (tarps, snow fencing, dock bumpers, and boat seats). The property owner
was informed to remove the items.
3. Parking of boats and trailers on the shoulder/residential lot. Parking on the
shoulder and parking of boats have not been observed,at the site inspection on
September 9 or any time in the past, including June 8th,June 16th,June 24th,July 17th.
4. Expanded YBC use of Tanager Bay slips. These issues were not observed, and I was
not able to verify that YBC has expanded their use.
5. Public urination. This issue was not observed, and the complainant was instructed
to contact the police.
6. Nighttime use of Gazebo. This issue was not observed, and the complainant was
instructed to contact the police at the next occurrence. Use of a Gazebo in the
evening is permissible, though specific hour restrictions may apply.
