Orono Golf Course –Rebranding Effort
A Brief History
•Edward P.Walsh was granted the first patent for the Orono Golf Course
property in 1859 (when the State of Minnesota was less than two years old)
•On their property, the Walsh’s had ordinary farming activities as well as an
extensive fruit and berry business.Apple orchards extended over
considerable acreage on both sides of what is now Orono Orchard Road,
hence the sub-division name of “Orono Orchards”
•In 1924,Frank Walsh (son of Edward Walsh)decided to plat and sell the
property.Streets and avenues were platted on both sides of Orono
Orchards Road.
•Leo Feser, the first Superintendent at Woodhill Country Club, worked out
an agreement to buy the land where the golf course now sits over time from
Mr.Walsh in 1924.
Orono Golf Course Founder: Leo
Feser (1899-1976)
