<br /> <br />To: Chair Ressler and Planning Commission Members <br /> Dustin Rief, City Administrator <br /> <br />From: Jeremy Barnhart, AICP <br /> Community Development Director <br /> <br />Date: March 16, 2020 <br /> <br />Subject: #LA20-11, City of Orono Text Amendment related to Appeal timelines, <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br />In Orono, the Planning Commission is established as the zoning board of appeals (board), and <br />they may review appeals of zoning decisions made by staff from time to time. Appeals of zoning <br />decisions are binding, though they may be appealed to the City Council. A person must file an <br />appeal within 10 days of board’s decision. A person wishing to appeal the Council’s response to <br />the issue may do so in district court. <br /> <br />The City Attorney suggests the City Council, by ordinance, establish the time period within which <br />an appeal must be filed in district court. The draft ordinance suggests 30 days. This amendment <br />was authorized by the City Council on January 27, 2020. <br /> <br />Public Comments <br />To date, no public comments have been received. <br /> <br />Issues for Consideration <br />1.
