AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 18 <br />Date: November 22, 2021 <br />Item Description: Approval of Extension of Prosecuting Attorney Contract <br />Presenter: Adam T. Edwards, P.E. Agenda Consent Agenda <br />City Administrator/ City Engineer Section: <br />Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain council approval to extend the Prosecuting <br />Attorney Contract. <br />2. Background. The City entered into a 5 year contract with Tallen and Baertschi for prosecuting <br />attorney services in 2017. The term of that contract is due to end in March of 2022. Long term the City <br />will be exploring the development of a Joint Powers agreement with our Police contract Cities to engage a <br />common prosecutor for all for the cities the Orono PD serves. That process is expected to take <br />approximately a year. There for staff approached our current prosecutor with the aim of coming to <br />agreement on an extension to cover the time needed to explore the JPA concept (See Exhibit A). <br />3. Staff Recommendation. I recommend that Council approve the extension of the Prosecuting <br />attorney at Exhibit B. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve amendment 1 to the Agreement for legal services. <br />Exhibits <br />A.
