Item No.: 16 <br />Date: November 22, 2021 <br />Item Description: Parks Full-time Maintenance Worker Appointment <br />Presenter: Joshua Lemons Agenda Consent Agenda <br />Parks and Golf Superintendent Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of the council item is to gain Council approval to appoint a new full-time Parks <br />maintenance employee. <br />2. Position. The full-time parks maintenance position description details a wide range of tasks to <br />maintain the city parks, trails, natural/open space, grounds, playground equipment, and lake access points. <br />This will be a Grade 7 position in the Orono Employee Compensation Plan and FLSA non-exempt. <br />3. Recruitment. The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, application <br />screening, and interviews. The selection committee consisted of the Parks & Golf Superintendent and <br />Public Works Street Supervisor. <br />4. Recommended Candidate. The recommended candidate is Mr. Jack Thonvold. Jack has over 9 <br />years of golf course experience in position of increasing responsibility. <br />5. Recommended Compensation. I recommended that Mr. Thonvold be appointed to the position of <br />Parks Maintenance Worker effective November 29th, 2021. <br />a. Salary. Starting wage of $26.02/hour (Grade 7, Step 1) <br />b. Benefits. Vacation will accrue at a rate of 10 days per year and follow the personnel policy. <br />Vacation and sick leave accrual will begin on the start date.
