<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />NO. ________________________ <br /> <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING WATER <br />CONSERVATION MEASURES <br />DURING THE SEVERE DROUGHT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has determined that the state <br />is now in the drought warning phase of the State Drought plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State Drought Plan and the City’s Water Supply plan call for the implementation of <br />water restrictions during droughts; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Code section 14-136 governs how the city will regulate the use of water during <br />periods of water shortage; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that all Orono residents, businesses and <br />organizations are highly encouraged to abide by the following restrictions: <br /> <br />a. Homes or businesses with even-numbered addresses should water their lawns on even- <br />numbered dates. Homes or businesses with odd-numbered addresses should water on odd-numbered dates. <br /> <br />b. Lawn watering is allowed only before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on scheduled days. <br /> <br />c. The planting of new sod or seed during very dry times of the year is discouraged. Daily <br />watering of new sod and seed is recommended for the first 14 days to establish root growth. After two <br />weeks, normal watering should be sufficient for establishing a new lawn. <br /> <br />d. Sports fields, golf courses, commercial nurseries, agricultural, and horticultural businesses are <br />exempt from watering restrictions but are encouraged to employ water efficiently to the greatest extent <br />possible. <br /> <br />e.
