There shall be no more than four temporary business signs issued per calendar year, and for a period of not more than ten days per time or of the <br /> duration of the event promoted by the sign message,whichever is less.The sign(including banners or balloons), sign supports or portable stand shall <br /> be removed from public view at the end of the period. Total area of the sign shall not exceed 32 square feet per surface(64 square feet total signage <br /> allowed for two-sided portable sign).Advertising balloons are not subject to area restrictions but must meet all applicable federal and state standards. <br /> b. There shall be no more than one temporary sign in any required yard area,and,if separate multiple signs are proposed,the total area of the signs shall <br /> not exceed 32 square feet.Temporary business signs require a building permit from the city. No such permit shall be issued by the city if a conditional <br /> use permit under section 78-1467(1)c has been issued to a residential property. No temporary sign shall be allowed in residential zones unless <br /> permitted as election or sale signs under this section. Multitenant buildings shall be considered as a single property for purposes of subsection (8) of <br /> this section; and the use of the single temporary business sign by tenants on the property shall be the responsibility of the property owner or <br /> designated manager,who shall endorse in writing all applications for sign permits. <br /> c. The owner or manager of the sign and the owner of the property shall be equally responsible for the proper location,maintenance and removal of the <br /> sign.All temporary signs shall be located on a property so that they do not impede safety by obstructing vision of pedestrians or motor vehicle <br /> operators. <br /> Sec.78-1468.Signs in B and I districts. <br /> Within the B and I districts,wall and monument signs are permitted subject to the following regulations: <br /> (1) 8-1,8-2 and 8-4:size.Within the B-1.3-2 and B-4 districts,the aggregate square footage of sign space per lot shall not exceed the sum of one square <br /> foot for each front foot of building.plus one square foot for each front foot of lot not occupied by a building. No individual sign shall exceed 50 square <br /> feet. <br /> (2) 8-3: size. Within the B-3 district, the aggregate square footage of sign space per lot shall not exceed the sum of four square feet per front foot of <br /> building,plus one square foot per front foot of property not occupied by a building. No individual sign surface shall exceed 100 square feet. <br /> (3) /:size. Within any I district,the aggregate square footage of sign space per lot shall not exceed the sum of four square feet per front foot of building, <br /> plus one square foot per front foot of property not occupied by a building.No individual sign surface shall exceed 100 square feet. <br /> (4) 8-1, 8-2 and 8-4: height. Within the B-1, B-2 and B-4 districts, no sign shall extend in height more than two feet above the highest outside wall or <br /> parapet of any principal building, nor shall any sign be located closer than ten feet from any property line; except that any sign over ten square feet <br /> may project two feet into any required yard area from the principal building. <br /> (5) 8-3 and I:height.Within any B-3 or I district,no sign shall extend in height more than six feet in height above the highest outside wall or parapet of any <br /> principal building. No sign shall be located closer than ten feet from any property line,except that any sign exceeding ten square feet may project only <br /> two feet into the yard area from any building. <br /> (Code 1984, § 10.61(3);Ord. No.6 3rd series,§2,4-26-2004) <br /> PLEASE NOTE: This is only an application. Do not erect the sign until you have received the permit. <br /> A double fee will be charged for any sign erected prior to obtaining a permit. <br /> APPLICANT/ OWNER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: <br /> • Agree to provide all information required or requested by the Building Department, that the work will be done in conformance <br /> with the Ordinances and Codes of the City of Orono and with the State Building Code and the work will be in accordance with <br /> the approved plan. <br /> • Certify that the information supplied is true and correct to the best of his/her knowledge.
