The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to purchase 2021 squad cars. <br /> <br />Background. The police department has budgeted for the replacement of four vehicles in 2021 <br />and is requesting to replace these vehicles in the next several months. The police department is <br />requesting to order one 2021 Dodge Durango AWD police SUV and two 2021 Dodge Charger <br />AWD. The order for these vehicles would need to be placed prior to the March 2021 cutoff, <br />because placing an order prior to the deadline allows the department to build the police vehicles <br />with options specifically needed by the police department and guarantees contract pricing. <br />Vehicles purchased after March 2020 are limited to stock on hand by individual dealerships; <br />specific options and colors may be difficult to get and pricing is subject to change by the dealership. <br />This year Dodge required a purchase order and the deadline was in October for the Chargers due <br />to demand. Set-up of these vehicles (lights, emergency equipment, etc.) can be from 3-4 weeks <br />depending on availability of equipment and the vendor. <br /> <br />These purchases would replace two 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle (#249 and <br />#250), a 2018 Dodge Charger (#253) and a 2010 Chevy Tahoe (#843) All of these vehicles are <br />currently being used and will continue to be used until they are to be replaced. <br /> <br />The vehicles will be sold when decommissioned to Dodge of Burnsville or at the auto action. <br /> <br /> <br />Cost. The City is using the state contracted pricing for the purchasing of these vehicles. Dodge <br />of Burnsville will be used for the purchasing of these vehicles. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> *plus tax, registration and other miscellaneous fees <br /> <br />Funding. This purchase will be funded through the Automotive Equipment line of the police <br />budget. The Automotive Equipment line budgeted $164,000 for the purchase of squads, <br />equipment and set-up of these vehicles. <br /> <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation.
