The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />manner and the work effort required to maintain specific assets is recorded. <br />• Works closely with GIS staff and the City Engineer to ensure the GIS mapping <br />system and the asset management system are kept up to date. <br />• Render technical advice, both written and verbal, to the City Council and Advisory <br />Boards and Commissions. Attend the City Council meetings and others as necessary. <br />• Assist City Engineer in the development of a multi-year capital improvement <br />plan and program to address the city's infrastructure development, maintenance <br />and replacement needs. <br />• Investigate citizen complaints and respond to citizen requests and issues. <br />• Prepare and review specifications for equipment and vehicles purchased by the City. <br />• Conduct special projects as assigned. <br />• Assist in the implementation of all water resource functions, including implementation of <br />the Wetland Conservation Act and Surface Water Management Plan as well as erosion <br />and sediment control as it relates to the MS4 NPDES requirements. <br />• Periodically conducts field inspections of city facilities and infrastructure to ensure <br />assets are properly maintained and repaired: identifies deficiencies; and issues work <br />orders to subordinates or contractors to correct these deficiencies. <br />• Plans, monitors, and continually evaluates the effectiveness of the maintenance, repair, <br />and replacement activities for the streets, fleet, facilities, storm sewer and utilities. <br />• Provides, and sets the example for, excellent customer service. <br />• Utilize computer technology for work management, information management and <br />communications. <br />• Prepare all necessary reports required by other government agencies. <br />• Maintain records in accordance with the retention schedule. <br />• Manage contacts/ contractors providing repair and maintenance services for city <br />infrastructure facilities and equipment. <br />• Establish and maintain safety program ensuring the department is fully compliant with all <br />OSHA regulations. <br />• Preparing short term and long term goals and objectives for public works <br />• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br /> <br />Knowledge: <br /> <br />• Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, <br />and maintenance. <br />• Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, <br />and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the <br />protection of people, data, property, and institutions. <br />• Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing <br />customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting <br />quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. <br />• Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles <br />involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership <br />technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. <br />• English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language <br />including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
