MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> Monday,January 11,2021 <br /> 6:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> PUBLIC HEARING—Continued <br /> cameras and he too was surprised the department did not already have them also he would like to see the <br /> city get them ASAP. <br /> Walsh closed the Public Hearing at 6:08 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> Richie Anderson,3205 Crystal Bay Road,wants to thank the Council for his appointment again to the Lake <br /> Minnetonka Conservation District(LMCD) and noted he has put his name in for Treasurer. He has some <br /> ideas on how to go forward and the Council will be his guinea pigs. <br /> Walsh thanked Mr.Anderson for all his time and effort in working on that and said the Council appreciate <br /> it. <br /> PRESENTATION <br /> Swearing in of Junior Cadets <br /> Mayor Walsh read the oath for Ashley Gabrielsen and Matthew Condon <br /> I,Ashley and Matthew do solemnly swear under oath that I will support and work with the City of <br /> Orono and the Orono Police Department, that I will follow the direction of its employees and <br /> support the duties of the office of Police Cadet in the City of Orono, in the County of Hennepin, to <br /> the best of my judgment and ability, so help me God. <br /> Ashley Gabrielsen and Matthew Condon both said"I Do." <br /> Walsh congratulated them both. <br /> Police Chief Correy Farniok asked Alex Oladoyin,one of the team coaches and organizers,to explain what <br /> the Growth Through Opportunity(GTO)program is.He noted this is the second year of the GTO program, <br /> they have had great success with it and hope to continue it in the future. <br /> Ms. Oladoyin stated she used to work for Orono and that is when the police partnership started. She noted <br /> GTO stands for Growth Through Opportunity and is a partnership between community members and the <br /> police force. The intention of the program is for participants to gain public safety experience,and also job <br /> experience and resume building; it also allows the Police Department to learn more about working with <br /> members of the community who have disabilities. It has been a really awesome partnership so far and they <br /> had two clients in the program last summer and are very excited to do it again. Ms. Oladoyin owns a <br /> company called Empower Inclusion and Paul, one of her employees will be job coaching and hanging out <br /> with Matthew and Ashley. <br /> 8. ADOPT STATE OF MINNESOTA JOINT POWERS AGREEMENTS WITH THE CITY OF <br /> ORONO ON BEHALF OF ITS CITY ATTORNEY AND POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> Police Chief Farniok said this is a five-year renewal to continue a Joint Power Agreement(JPA)as well as <br /> a Court Data Services amendment to the CJD End Subscriber Agreement,and the Resolution adopting this. <br /> He noted this is a formality,it is to allow the City to access the Criminal Bureau of Apprehension data <br /> Page 3 of 12 <br />
