Monson, Cherie L.
From: Monson, Cherie L.
Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2012 4:46 PM
To: Tpuzak@comcast.net
Cc: Skogman, Kaye I.; Mena, Mela A.
Subject: RE: new gas@1340 Baldur Park Rd, Orono
Fred,
This is a very rough estimate since I don't have a documented plan in front of me.
Your service line only option was measured at 525 ft.—75 ft. of credit= 450 ft. x $4/foot=$1800. You will be
billed for this amount after the service line is installed.
If you were to install main and service (only available if all of the conditions shown below are met), here are
your estimates.
The footage estimate would be 500 ft. You would receive an upfront credit of 150 ft. for your house so you
would have to send me a check before installation is scheduled for$1050 (350 ft. x $3/ft.). Your service line
would be less than 75 feet so there would be no charge for service in this case. If the other 2 sites are built on,
served with natural gas and use natural gas as their primary heat source within 3 years of the installation of the
main, you will receive a $450 check back for each of those lots. According to our tariff, you do not receive the
$900 credit before the main is installed since we don't know when those sites will be built on. Our tariff states
that we only refund within 3 years of the main installation which means that if they are served after the three
years, you would not receive any credit back for them.
We need the following items in order to install main on private property.
1. A 10-20 foot Drainage and Utility Easement shown on a plan where the gas line will be installed within
that easement.
2. A clear pathway where the gas line will be installed in the easement.
3. Documentation from the City showing the additional future building sites on a site plan or plat.
If these conditions are met,we can design, permit and install a gas main on your property. However, it takes at
least 2 months lead time to design, permit and install a gas main so it is possible that we wouldn't be able to
install main yet this year since it is already September(depending on how early there is frost).
If you choose not to install main based on the above information, installing only a service line does not require a
design or permit in the City of Orono so it can be scheduled within a month of your site ready date. It is my
understanding that we plan to install a large enough service line so that additional homes can use the same line
in the future (as long as a legal easement has been created over the location where the gas line has been
installed).
I will be on vacation starting tomorrow (9/7). Please contact Kaye or Mela if you would like to schedule your
service installation as originally discussed. Otherwise, forward the requested information above to my
attention. I will start the process of designing, permitting and installing the gas main when I return from
vacation on Monday (9/17).
Thank you.
