MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, November 27, 2006 <br />7:00 o’clock p.m. <br />_____________________________________________________________________________________ <br />(4. RECOGNITION OF THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED THEIR TIME, TALENTS, EFFORT <br />AND EQUIPMENT TOWARD BIG ISLAND PARK IMPROVEMENT AND CLEAN-UP, <br />Continued) <br /> <br />Acting Mayor White presented Xcel Energy, Wes Bendickson, Gabriel Jabbour, Tom Nicccum, Bret <br />Niccum, Don Anthony, Mike Brown, and Tony Schmidt with resolutions acknowledging their <br />contributions to the Big Island Improvement Project. <br /> <br />Jim Murphy thanked former Mayor Gabriel Jabbour for coordinating this project, noting that the park is <br />more environmentally sound due to the efforts of Jabbour and the other volunteers. <br /> <br />Melanie DeLuca reported on the success of the Big Island Summer Institute program this past summer. <br />A nine-week program was conducted this summer, with transportation being provided by the Lake <br />Minnetonka Sailing School. Children from 23 different communities were able to participate in the <br />program this year, with 156 students involved in the program overall. DeLuca thanked the members of <br />the Orono City Council for their sponsorship of some of the low-income students and the other volunteers <br />who helped make this program a success. <br /> <br />The City Council and the audience watched a DVD highlighting the Big Island Summer Institute <br />Program. <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Sansevere seconded, to adopt Resolution Nos. 5535 to 5542 Recognizing Wes <br />Bendickson, Tom Niccum, Bret Niccum, Tony Schmidt, Don Anthony, Mike Brown, Gabriel <br />Jabbour, and Xcel Energy, particularly Greg Wenzel, for their Outstanding Efforts and <br />Contributions Toward the Clean-up and Improvement of the Big Island Park Property. VOTE: <br />Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br />PLANNING COMMISSION COMMENTS – DICK KROEGER, REPRESENTATIVE <br /> <br />Kroeger stated he had nothing to report but would be available for questions. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />ZONING ADMINSTRATOR’S REPORT <br /> <br />5. #05-3135 ALLEN MUNSON, 3165 NORTH SHORE DRIVE – CONDITIONAL USE <br />PERMIT – VARIANCE <br /> <br />Allen Munson, Applicant, was present. <br /> <br />Gaffron stated the applicant is requesting a conditional use permit and a variance to the average lakeshore <br />setback to allow for construction of a new residence.
