They are seeking to install a solar <br /> photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of a pole barn on their property. <br /> Minnesota §462.357, subd. 6, states that inadequate access to direct sunlight for solar energy <br /> systems is a practical difficulty. The combination of ground-mounted solar PV arrays not being <br /> permitted in Orono and the uniqueness of the property, limit access to direct sunlight on this <br /> property. In order to maximize production of the system on the property, All Energy Solar has <br /> designed a flush-mounted solar PV system to go on the Southern facing roof plane of the pole <br /> barn. The solar will be interconnected to a meter that is located at the pole barn. The array will <br /> not be visible from the nearby streets- McCulley and Bayside Roads. <br /> Our design meets the 2020 State of Minnesota Building code; however, it does not meet the <br /> City of Orono's requirements outlined in Sec. 78-1379 of Orono's Zoning Ordinance. Specifically <br /> Sub e, number 2, letter h which states, "Maximum area. In all residential zoning districts, the <br /> collector and mounting system of a roof-mounted solar energy system shall cover no more than <br /> 70 percent of the roof to which it is affixed". The current array design covers approximately 83% <br /> of the roof plane. <br /> This proposed system will not impact the character of the neighborhood and will not affect the <br /> welfare, safety or health of the community. The proposed system will help Aron and Kali offset <br /> their electricity use and contribute to the State of Minnesota's clean energy goals. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> All Energy Solar <br />
