°moo
CITY OF ORONO
Street Address: Mailing Address: Telephone(952)249-4600
2750 Kelley Parkway P.O. Box 66 Fax (952)249-4616
G1
gKESHO Orono,MN 55356 Crystal Bay,MN 55323 www.ci.orono.mn.us
October 31st 2012
Elaine Pagonis
2740 Shadywood Road
Orono MN 55391
Elaine,
This letter is to confirm our conversation on October 30, 2012 regarding the boat house on your
property. As you know the building is falling down and the city considers it to be a hazardous building.
Your choices to remedy the situation are as follows.
1- You could obtain a building permit to repair the structure.
2- You could obtain a building permit to replace the structure in kind.
3- You could enter into an agreement with the city to have the structure removed. The cost would
then be assessed to your taxes in 5 equal installments at 8% interest per annum.A ballpark
estimate of$6000 has been received by the city for removal of the strucure.
4- You could obtain a demolition permit and remove the structure yourself.
5- You could do nothing and the city will proceed with a hazardous building action and obtain a
court order to remove the structure. The cost would then be assessed to your taxes all at one
time.
City ordinance would allow you to rebuild the structure in kind if you were to obtain a building permit
within 6 months of the demolition. If reconstruction did not start within 6 months the building would be
required to meet zoning standards and setbacks and could not be rebuilt in that location.
You requested time to consider your options and the city agreed to a time period of 2 weeks. If you have
any questions please feel free to contact me at my office.
Sincerer,
Lyle Oman
Orono Building Official
