Potential wetlands were evaluated in greater detail during field observations on November 13,
2014. Two (2) wetlands were identified and delineated on the subject site (Figure 2).
Corresponding data forms are included in Appendix A. The following description of the
wetlands and adjacent upland reflects conditions observed at the time of the field visit. At that
date, herbaceous vegetation was actively growing and hydrologic conditions were assumed to be
typical for that date based on available precipitation data (Appendix B) and field observations.
A survey of the wetland boundaries is included as Appendix C.
Wetland 1 was a Type 5 (PUBG) shallow, open water wetland with a saturated fringe dominated
by reed canary grass with lesser amounts of cattail.
Adjacent upland was a single-family residential lot dominated by mowed Kentucky bluegrass
and planted red pine trees.
The delineated boundary followed a change in vegetation composition and topography. Wetland
1 corresponded to a PUBG wetland on the NWI map, but was located in an area mapped as
hydric soil (Dundas-Cordova) on the soil survey.
Wetland 2 was a Type 1 (PEMA) seasonally flooded wetland dominated by reed canary grass
and green ash trees. No inundation or soil saturation was observed within the wetland or at the
sample point.
Adjacent upland was a single-residential lot dominated by mowed Kentucky bluegrass and
planted trees.
The delineated boundary followed a change in vegetation composition and topography. Wetland
2 did not correspond to a wetland on the NWI map, but was located in an area mapped as hydric
soil (Dundas-Cordova) on the soil survey.
Other Areas
An area located in the middle of the site was mapped as wetland according to the MCWD
(Figure 6). The area was dominated by mowed Kentucky bluegrass and mature red pine, sugar
maple, and white spruce trees. Do to the absence of hydrophytic vegetation KES determined this
area to be non-wetland.
Another area of interest was located east of the home on the site. This area was a depressional
landscape feature lined with landscape rock and rip rap and dominated by Canada thistle and
planted with yew shrubs and white spruce saplings. Do to the absence of hydrophytic vegetation
KES determined this area to be non-wetland.
No other areas with wetland vegetation or hydrology were observed on the site. No other areas
were shown with hydric soil on the soil survey map, or as wetland on the NWI map.
4
