Message Page 1 of 2
Mike Gaffron
From: Jim White [JWhite@fineassociates.com]
Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 3:51 PM
To: Ron Moorse; Mike Gaffron
Subject: FW: 1860 Shoreline Dr-- part 3
From: charier [mailto:sjcharrier@worldnet.att.net]
Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 3:24 PM
To: bittybear@onvoymail.com; jmurphy@goldengate.net; lilim@mac.com; bobsansevere@yahoo.com; Jim White
Cc: Stephen (work)
Subject: 1860 Shoreline Dr -- part 3
Dear Orono City Council Members:
Yesterday we received a call from the Long Lake Fire Department (which informed us by
flyer on Thursday) that they would be conducting a series of controlled burns, with a final
burn of the house at 1860 Shoreline Dr on April 1 st. When inquiry was made how the
mature spruce trees (30-40') between our properties would be protected from the heat and
fire damage, the caller informed us that Mr. Broitzman was planning on cutting those down.
This has hit a huge nerve with us, as Troy had promised us last fall that he would not be
cutting any more trees down that are on the border between our properties, which serve as a
major screen.
We have two young sons and a third son due in two months. This is the home we plan on
living in long term and raising our sons to adulthood. We have been fully accepting of a
new house being built next door to us and any inconveniences it might cause for us in the
next year or two, without complaint. The choices Mr. Broitzman makes for the future of
1860 will affect our property in a real way, and his choices have already no been
particularly positive, but we have been willing to work with him on remedies. We have
certainly allowed for his inexperience, lack of aesthetic judgment and have felt sincerely that
he needs a "fair shake" in this development process.
We have been the last remaining neighbors who have been generous with Mr. Broitzman and
if he has truly planned to cut those trees down, frankly, we have run out of graciousness.
This cycle of running next door or returning long phone calls to review every change of
plans Mr. Broitzman has made over the past nine months on his plans for 1860 has now
become a hassle and imposition. If Mr. Broitzman is indeed the builder he considers
himself, he should not require constant babysitting on this project, and he should know what
he is doing by now. Based on the information from the Long Lake Fire Department that he
was going to cut down the remaining screen between our houses, this shows not only
immaturity, but a breach of our personal agreement and a failure to grasp the great advice
and direction given to him by both the Council and the neighbors for the past many months.
We will both be attending the meeting on Monday evening, and truly appreciate your
;ii ninn
