MINUTES OF TIIE <br /> ORONO CITY COUNCIL M�ETING <br /> - Monday, September 26, 2005 <br /> 7:00 o'clock p.m, <br /> McMillan stated that she would only approve a lot width variance if e�tra side setbacks were <br /> implemented to allow for additional drainage and screening. She maintained that the applicant <br /> had adequate space to build a decent new home on this lot but not enough e�tra room to allow <br /> him to remove by CUA soil to create walkotrts. She could not support land alteration to simply <br /> mal<e it convenient for the applicant to implement this proposaL <br /> Broitzman stated that he purchased the lot because of its view and character of Orono. <br /> Sansevere pointed out tliat, ironically, tllis character and view are the things he has proposed to <br /> change most dramatically with this proposal, <br /> Broitzman staied that he found it frustrating tliat the �1ew liome, though more narrow than the <br /> current home, and despite his willingness to plant trees on liis aiid his neighbor's properties that <br /> he could be denied. <br /> McMillan pointed out that each homeowner inust be able to adeqiiately screen their home within <br /> their own property boundaries. She could not support;liis screening on adjoining pi•operty owner's <br /> home sites. <br /> Murphy suggested the a}iplicant feain up with a:coiitractor or architect who knows the Ocono area <br /> and design a home thaf fits more within the character he found so appealing. <br /> Sansevere stated that he did not recall ever hearing fi•om so many neighba�s as he had on this <br /> project.,' <br /> Mayor Peterson pointed out that, while the neighbors support the prospect of a new home, it is the <br /> sheer magnitude ofthe proposal that they 1`ind disconcerting. <br /> Greg Coward, 1950 Heritage Drive, stated that, as an immediate neighbor, he had received <br /> incomplete communication. While construction easements were granted because the neighbors <br /> recognized that something would be built on the site, the CUP calls for permanent land alteration <br /> and concrete swales which do not ft within the character of the neighborhood.
