CITY OF ORONO MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: March 9, 2020 <br />TO: Mayor Walsh, City Council members <br />FROM: Jeremy Barnhart, AICP, Community Development Director <br />RE: Planning Commission Vacancy update <br /> <br /> <br />At the end of March, John Thiesse will have served the last of his three, three year term. City Code does <br />not include a provision for the Council to reappoint Commission members beyond the third term. <br /> <br />Advertisements for filling the vacancy have been posted on the website and Facebook. The city has <br />received two applications, Scott Kirchner and David Peterson. <br /> <br />Staff anticipates the applicants will be reviewed by the Council via interview at their workshop on March <br />9th, to be appointed that night. <br /> <br />Section 74-2 of the City Code prescribes membership of the Commission, with the intent to diversify <br />perspectives between lake and non-lake, and urban (zoning less than 2 acres) and rural (zoning more than <br />2 acres) residents.
