Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain approval for the disposal of a firearms. <br />2. Background. Over the last several years the police department has acquired several guns (8) <br />by various means. Some have been turned in for disposal, some have been taken during search <br />warrants and others have been seized when used illegally. Orono Public Works will assist us by <br />cutting up the weapons that need to be destroyed and have no value. Streicher's and Frontiersman <br />are reputable local businesses specializing in police equipment has offered competitive prices on <br />those weapons that are deemed to have value. The money obtained from the disposal of these guns <br />will be used to purchase duty weapons and/or ammunition to be used by the department at the <br />range when training. <br />3. Project Scope. Staff Recommendation. I recommend the disposal of a firearms as listed above. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to dispose of a firearms as listed above. Orono Public Works will assist with cutting up <br />the firearms that need to be destroyed.
