AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 7 <br />Date: January 13, 2020 <br />Item Description: Appointment of 2020 Election Judges — Resolution <br />Presenter: Anna Carlson, Agenda Consent Agenda <br />City Clerk Section: <br />1. Purpose. State Statute 204B.21, Subd. 2 states that election judges for precincts in a municipality <br />must be appointed by the governing body of the municipality at least 25 days before an election. <br />2. Staff Recommendation. It is staff's recommendation that Council adopt the attached resolution <br />listing the names of the qualified persons who have indicated their willingness to serve as election <br />judges at the Presidential Nomination Primary Election on March 3, 2020, Primary Election on <br />August 11, 2020 and the General Election on November 3, 2020, with the understanding that <br />amendments may be necessary to the appointments in order to fill vacancies and meet party splits. <br />In addition, the appointed Election Judges shall be paid $10.00 per hour, Assistant Head Judges <br />shall be paid $10.50 per hour, and Head Judges shall be paid $11.00 per hour to carry out their <br />duties at the polling place and to attend required training. In addition, Head Judges shall be <br />compensated for mileage to pick up election supplies or deliver election returns at a rated allowed <br />by the IRS (currently $.56 per mile) per State Statue 204B.31 and reimbursed $10.00 for the use <br />of their cell phone on Election Day. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to adopt the attached resolution appointing the 2020 Election Judges and the 2020 Election Judge <br />pay rates and reimbursements. <br />Exhibits <br />Exhibit A.
