Public Services Plan <br /> MLNNEHAHA CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT(MCWD) <br /> � <br /> The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is the regional governmental unit <br /> responsible for managing and protecting the w�ater resources of the Minnehaha <br /> Creek w-atershed. The District was established in 1967 under the Minnesota <br /> Watershed District Act. The District covers approximatelv 181 square miles that <br /> ultimately drain into the Minnehaha Creek (which then enters the Mississippi <br /> River). The watershed includes natural treasures such as Minnehaha Creek Lake <br /> Minnetonka, The Minneapolis Chain of Lakes and Minnehaha Falls. We achieve our mission throu�h <br /> re;�ulation, capital projects, education, cooperative endeavors, and other <br /> pro�rams based on sound science, innovative thinkin<�, an informed and enga_� <br /> constituencv. and cost effective use of public funds. <br /> The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District protects and improves water qualit� <br /> mana�es stormwater, mana�es levels of Lake Minnetonka and flow of <br /> Minnehaha Creek (via Grays Bav Dam), restores and manages wetlands and <br /> lakes. and much more. These activities are accomplished throu�h six main <br /> pro�ram areas. including water qualitv monitorin� and research re ug latory <br /> permits, project mana�ement and maintenance, land conservation, education and <br /> communication, and plannin„. <br /> A more detailed review of the MCWD's stormwater management goals can be <br /> found in the Environmental Protection Plan element of the CMP. <br /> LAKE MINNETONKA CONSER VA TION DISTRICT(LMCD) <br /> The LMCD was created by the State Legislature in 1967 to adopt and enforce <br /> rules designed to improve the recreational use and quality of Lake Minnetonka. <br /> The LMCD, through its ordinances, has authority to: <br /> City of Orono Community Management P(an 2008-2030 Page 4F-23 <br />
