Public Services Plan <br /> MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEAL TH <br /> The Minnesota Department of Health is responsible far, among other things, <br /> issuance of permits for well construction and abandonment. <br /> METROPOLITAN AND REGIONAL AGENCIES <br /> THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL <br /> The Metropolitan Council has legislative authority as the regional planning <br /> coardinator for the seven county Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. This abency <br /> coordinates local planning under the 1977 Mandatory Land Planning Act, <br /> providinb plans and facilities for regional services includinb transportation, <br /> sewers, parks and airports. This agency acts as a clearinghouse for regional <br /> housing programs and housing subsidy grants from both state and federal <br /> agencies. <br /> Metro Transit <br /> Metro Transit is the Metropolitan Council division which has the responsibility <br /> for operating the public transit system in the metropolitan Twin Cities area. <br /> Metro Transit provides limited bus service to Orono as discussed in the <br /> Transportation chapter of the CMP. <br /> Environmental Services <br /> The Metropolitan Council Environmental Services division (MCES) has the <br /> responsibility for operating the urban sewage collection and sewabe treatment <br /> system in the Twin Cities area. MCES operates the Orono-Long Lake, Orono- <br /> Minnetonka Beach and Maple Plain Interceptor sewers in Orono. MCES must <br /> approve all metropolitan area comprehensive sewer plans and all individual <br /> sewer lateral eatensions consistent with the local CSPP's, with MPCA guidelines <br /> and with the metropolitan urban service plans and policies of the Metropolitan <br /> Council. <br /> HENNEPIN COUNTY DEPARTMENTS <br /> LIBRARIES <br /> Hennepin County provides local library service for County residents. Hennepin <br /> County libraries that serve Orono residents are located in Wayzata, Long Lake, <br /> Maple Plain, Mound and Excelsior. All County libraries have local collections <br /> plus mutual exchange services with other County branches and other library <br /> systems including those of Minneapolis.
