This design is based on a Certificate of Survey prepared by
Gronberg &Associates dated September 14, 2017, and a wall layout plan provided by you.
The attached typical section(s) should be referenced for construction details. Special note should be
made of the wall embedment depth and the geosynthetic fabric (geogrid) length as measured from the
front face of the wall if applicable. If water is encountered at the base of the wall, additional drainage and
reinforcement details may be required.
Refer to industry standard practice references for installation information, specifications, and details.
- Boulders shall be placed to avoid continuous joint planes in vertical directions.
- Each stone shall bear on two or more rocks below it with good flat-to-flat contact.
- Compact any structural fill place behind the drainage zone to 95% standard proctor.
- Install woven landscape fabric behind the stone to limit soil migration through the wall face.
- Optional drainage stone shall consist of clean 3/4"to 1.5"crushed stone
The design of the wall system is specific to the following parameters:
• Location: Back of house at window well; 6-foot single wall with split to two 3-foot tiered walls
• Minimum embedment depth = 6", or as noted
• Soil conditions: Sandy Clay, friction angle = 30.0 degrees, unit weight of 120.0 Ib/ft3
• Allowable soil bearing capacity= 1,500 psf
• Surcharge loads behind the walls: None
• Slope at top: 10:1; Slope at bottom: 10:1
• Boulder sizes: see cross section drawing
• Geosynthetic Reinforcement Fabric Type: None
• Drainage pipe: Required
LICENSED
PROFESSIONAL
ENGINEERS
HOME&BUILDING INSPECTIONS
STRUCTURAL EVALUATIONS
ASSOCIATION RESERVE/TRANSITION STUDIES
RESIDENTIAUCOMMERCIAL 5
RETAINING WALL DESIGN&EVALUATIONS
z0l-7--00
