• Forwarded message
From: "Lonney Olson" <lonneyo@gmail.com>
Date: Jun 27, 2017 4:08 PM
Subject: Fwd: Here are three techical bulletin from LP Corp re: LP Smartside
To: <rpeitso@ci.orono.mn.us>
Cc:
Roger,
Please review the notes and attachments from the Larry Mayer email detailing specifics from an engineer to
engineer conversation on LP smartside being attached to a 3/4" substrate. Larry has a particular interest in
this detail as he has developed a system that has a 3/4" substrate built into it. In other words if there is
attachment issue with some or many siding products then he may need to rethink his design. Anyway, Please
review and let me know if this is acceptable? If so please reply as soon as you can so I can order materials and
get things back on track.
Best,
Lonney
Forwarded message
From: Larry Mayer<1m321 elite(aaol.com>
Date: Tue, Jun 27, 2017 at 2:49 PM
Subject: Here are three techical bulletin from LP Corp re: LP Smartside
To: lonneyo@gmail.com, phuelman@umn.edu, mike@echelonbuilders.com,john@energysmarthomes.net
Gentlemen,
Rex Swanson is the structural engineer for LP Corp. he's a Minnesota native now living in Phoenix
AZ.
Bulletin 18 addresses our situation. When the strap is less than 3/4" thick place two fasteners side
by side 1.0" apart at each furring strip.
- Fasteners must be hot tip galv. with shank .12 thick.
- He prefers 3/4 CDX ply over standard pine as its specific density is over .40 vs pine in the .32
range.
- He prefers ring shank fasteners.
The note 014 was for Florida with 200 MPH wind loads. The Note 010 was for LP on OSB and due
to 7/16 thickness requires a fastener every 10 in.
He is open to your code official calling him.
His contact info is:
Rex Swanson, PE
Louisiana-Pacific Corp
Phoenix
Rex.Swanson@LPCorp.com
480.352.3667
You may find more Tech Notes of interest at: www.lpcorp.com
Larry
2
