The beam in the second floor can be a steel beam in lieu of the 16" Microilam beams, ;n ordea <br /> to keep the beam within the depth of the 2x10 floor joists. The steel beam is to be a W8x24 (6" <br /> deep, 24 pounds per foot). Provide 4-2x4 studs under each end of the beam, with solid blocking <br /> under the studs to the beam or wall below. <br /> 2. The existing steel beam in the first floor will be adequate to carry the load of one end of the <br /> steel beam above. The existing beam is a one piece member with a column at midspan. <br /> understand it is an 8 inch deep beam (W8x15) with a bottom flange at least 4"wide and 5/16' <br /> thick. <br /> C.
