NIlNUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO PARK COMMISSION <br /> MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 <br /> (#2 - August 24, 1997 Council Meeting Report - Continued) <br /> McDermott said he had heard that a bfly scout was requesting to make a park sign <br /> for use at Lee Carlson Ballfield and asked for further information. Gappa said the <br /> boy scout came to the office to request permission to do sa. Gappa said he was <br /> informed that a oermit would be reauired. <br /> Wilson noted the Commission has been striving for standardization of a11 park <br /> si�ns and voiced concern that this be followed. Gappa said he would nrovide the <br /> boy scout with examples from the parks. Wilson asked that the natural look of the <br /> signs and identification as a Orono Park be maintained. McDermott reviewed <br /> generally the design of the signs. Gappa informed Erickson that the request was <br /> made to fulfill requirements of the ea�le bad�e. <br /> Ilse noted the cooperation e�sting between the school, Commission, and baseball <br /> association at the ballfield. <br /> Welles suggested the sign be coordinated with the ice arena nearby. McDermott <br /> s�id he disa�reed. Wilson explained that the Park Commission is not involved with <br /> the ice arena. <br /> McDermott reported that the Council had approved giving a piece of a park to a <br /> private property owner, W_yatt and Nanc_y Moe, who live on Spruce Place and <br /> were requesting a subdivision of a lot line rearrangement. He indicated his surprise <br /> that the Commission had not been notified. Wilson questioned why the <br /> Commission was unaware of its e�stence. McDermott irrf6rrned Gappa that it was <br /> a platted park. McDermott said he had thought he had seen the park property on a <br /> map at one time. <br /> McDermott asked that the Council be informed tha.t the Commissioners believe the <br /> matter should have been reviewed with the Commission. Wilson asked that the <br /> Council be infortned that the Commission was unhappy with the procedure <br /> followed. <br /> McDermott indicated that he noted the Commission's request ta instalt a sprinkler <br /> system at Crystal Bay Park and asked Gappa if he had any further information. <br /> Gappa said he was informed that the price range would be $5,000 to �I0,000 <br /> depending on the water pressure. A flow tneasure would be taken. <br /> 3 <br />
