PARK COMMISSION MINLTTES, OCTOBER 15, 1974 Page 2
Helen Toward and Diane Dunlap, representing NORTH SHORE GYMNASTICS
the North Shore Gymnastics Association, CLUB
presented the problem the association has
in finding space tihere they can meet an hold
classes. This is a non-profit organization
that has around 300 students, most of whom are
from the City of Orono. This year they are
meeting at the Orono Middle School, but are
looking for space to enable them to continue
in future years.
A discussion followed. The possibility of a
new facility is further away than could be
considered helpful at this time. Endorsement
and/or sponsorship by the Park _Commission
might be considered after a stuc f the
association and the need for gymnastics in
the area.
Oberhauser moved, Hallowell seconded, the
following resolution: The Park Commission
feels the gymnastics program is very wDrth
while and we feel the Orono School Board should
cooperate to the maximum extent to facilitate
the program. Motion, Ayes (6) - Nays (0) .
The resolution will be presented to the Orono
School Board meeting by Oberhauser and
Hallowell on November 11, 1974.
Peterson, Grandstaff, and Lathrop, representing SNOWMOBILE TRAIL
the Long Lake Skip Drifters Snowmobile Club,
spoke on the problem of snowmobiling in the
City of Orono and ways they are trying to help
solve thes problems.
They would like to arrange trils through the SN06+IMOBILE TRAIL
City in order to minimize the problem and are
willing to work to maintain the trail and/or
trails.
The trails can be paid for by a grant-in"'aid GRANT-IN-AID PROGRAM
program from the State with 65$ coming from
the State and 35 from the City. The snow-
mobilers hope to contribute their time which
would cover the major share of the City's 35$.
discussion followed.
Oberhauser left the meeting.
If possible, a meeting wil. be held with the DNR DNR MEETING DATE
on Tuesday, October 29, 1974, for all interested
Park Commission and Council members.
