Pavement Subgrade Proof-Roll <br /> We recommend that proof-rolling of the pavement subgrades be observed by a geotechnical engineer to <br /> determine if the results of the procedure meet project specifications,or delineate the extent of <br /> additional pavement subgrade preparation work. <br /> E.4. Equipment Support <br /> The recommendations included in the report may not be applicable to equipment used for the <br /> construction and maintenance of this project. Subgrade conditions in areas where it is intended to <br /> support shoring, scaffolding, cranes, pumps, lifts and other construction equipment should be evaluated <br /> prior to mobilization to determine if the exposed materials are suitable for equipment support, or if <br /> some form of subgrade improvement should first be performed. Consideration should be given to the <br /> affect that loads applied by such equipment may have on structures they bear on or surcharge- including <br /> pavements, buried utilities, below-grade walls, etc.We would be pleased to assist you in this evaluation. <br /> F. Procedures <br /> F.1. Borings <br /> The standard penetration test(SPT) borings performed in 2011 were drilled with a core and auger drill rig <br /> equipped with 3 1/4-inch hollow-stem augers.The borings were performed in general accordance with <br /> ASTM D 1586. SPT samples were taken at 2 1/2-foot intervals to a depth of 15 feet,then at 5-foot <br /> intervals to termination.Actual sample intervals and corresponding depths are shown on the Boring Logs <br /> in the Appendix. <br /> F.2. Material Classification and Testing <br /> F.2.a. Visual and Manual Classification <br /> The geologic materials encountered were visually and manually classified in general accordance with <br /> ASTM Test Method D 2488.A chart explaining the classification system is provided in the Appendix. <br /> Samples were sealed in jars and returned to our facility for review and storage. <br /> BRAUN <br /> I NTE BTEC <br />
